The Rooks

There are 2 Rooks (sometimes can be named as a castle) per team.

They can move as many squares as you want but following a line or a column, they can be moved forward and backwards.

Capturing: It can capture an opponent piece by taking its place.

It cannot jump over any piece but its special weapon is the castling.

They are placed right at the bottom corners of the chess board (h8, h1 and a8 a1) using this special movement it’s the only which allows to move 2 pieces at the same time, only once in the game and if the rook or king has not been moved before.

There can be two ways the king side castling or the queen side. (Here you are the diagrams):

 Queen Side Castling
King Side Castling

When playing a championship its value is pretty high (5 points).

Remember Castling cannot be done, if the King or the Rook are in any other place or  when your King is under Check.

Did you know that?
According to some authors the word ROOK comes from the Persian word RUKH, that means "chariot of war", and other says that it comes from the Italian word "ROCCO" that means Tower, like in Spanish "Torre".
