The Queen

The Queen (q)

Here you are the most powerful piece in the chess game.

It can move as many squares as the players want either vertical, horizontal and diagonal. That is to say her value is a Rook + 2 bishops (black and white diagonals).

It is so powerful that should be moved cautiously. Think that your opponent has another Queen. For instance a queen sacrifice is the deliberate sacrifice of a queen in order to gain a more favorable tactical position. So WATCH OUT when your opponent offers his/her Queen easily.

The value of this piece in competition can be 9/10 points, and when a Pawn promotes it can become a Knight, a bishop, a rook or specially a Queen.

Did you know?

This piece use comes from Its name comes  originally from counsellor or prime minister (also "vizier" in other languages). With the years its name turned into a lady, as in Spanish because of the power shown by very important queens throughout history.
